If I contact a merchant about a fraudulent charge, am I privy to the information they have about the purchase?
antcomp2002 asked:
I found a fraudulent debit card charge on my checking account from Microsoft XBox Live. I reported it to the bank already. However, if I contacted Microsoft are they obligated (either by law, by their merchant agreement, or otherwise) to provide me with information about the transaction, such as what was purchased, the contact information they have on file for the transaction, etc…? If you can cite specific laws that would be great.

My Card is a MasterCard Debit issued by ING Direct, I am a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada , and the location listed on my statement for Microsoft was Redmond, Washington.

They probably will not give you any info about it. If it’s a certain price then you can get a case number…however it may require you to get one in WA.
Just have your bank credit you back the amount (if they can) and change your card number.
It’s not worth investigating…leave that up to the police.
