customer charged back credit card after 3 weeks, and after using the service?

Lisa K asked:

I own a business in Wisconsin, and recently had a customer charge back their credit card 3 weeks after using the service they paid for. I have 2 merchant accounts. One is a regular merchant account, the other is through paypal. I have been in business for 3 years and have had 4 chargebacks in this amount of time, which is very low considering how much volume we do. My regular merchant account fights chargebacks very good, and i have never lost with them. Paypal however is terrible at fighting them, as I have never won with them. My question is, can I simply run this person’s transaction on my regular merchant account, after they have done a chargeback on my paypal merchant account? Or will I get in trouble for running it again. This person still has merchandise from us, and used our service, yet has not returned anything after the chargeback. The reason I want to run this again on my regular merchant account is because if they do a chargebcak on that one, I know I will probably win.

Why not just go to the source? You said they are still using the service and still have the product. Get a hold of them and find out what is going on. I would speak to them first and see what kind of reply you get and if not good then write a letter requesting they paid.

Yes, I think you can do that. I do not see any legal reason not to. Then if that customer does not like it, let them fight you.
